Duality (WIP)
2026
Being diagnosed with cancer has been life altering, and changed my relationship with time. I no longer have the luxury of pretending I will live forever. Each day is marked with the ritual of taking the pills needed to keep me alive, to keep the cancer at bay. My hair, lost during radiation is growing back and filling in. Facing mortality has caused me to act on things I had put off and to simplify my life.
I utilizing the diptych as a strategy. It allows me to combine self portraits with symbolic images, and is a metaphor for the two opposite truths I live with - that I have Stage 4 Cancer and that I’m also basically fine.
