Technological Mediations

2015

July 31 – September 18, 2015. Art Works Downtown.

Technology has fundamentally changed how we experience the world. It mediates our sense of place, our identity, our relationships, and our communities. It is an extension of our bodies; we interface with technology seamlessly and effortlessly.

Our society's obsession with technology is most evident in our dependence on our smart phones. Our devices are seductive, useful, and problematic all at once. They have given us a worldwide connectedness, and at the same time distracted us from our surroundings. Data is collected on our every move, and we are photographed more than ever before. We are in touch with old friends through social media and have the ability to see places we may never visit. We live in a complicated time that is exciting with possibility, while creating new ethical dilemmas unforeseen in the past.

The artists in Technological Mediations explore the intersection of art and technology to discuss our mediated lives in the digital age.
